GENEVA, Dec. 10 (Xinhua) -- The International Gymnastics Federation has been rebranded as World Gymnastics, the governing body announced Tuesday.
The organization said the change followed consultations with athletes, member federations, fans and commercial partners, and marks what it described as a significant milestone in its evolution.
World Gymnastics has served as the governing body for the sport since its Olympic origins and is recognized by the International Olympic Committee. Founded in 1881, it is the oldest international federation of any Olympic sport.
The body oversees eight disciplines: Gymnastics for All, men's and women's artistic gymnastics, rhythmic gymnastics, trampoline and tumbling, acrobatics, aerobics and parkour.
World Gymnastics said it engages millions of athletes and fans across 165 member federations, making gymnastics one of the world's most popular participation and spectator sports.
The rebranding includes a new logo and visual identity, which the organization said reflects its commitment to promoting gymnastics at every level, from grassroots participation to elite international competition.
"World Gymnastics represents our mission with clarity and purpose," president Morinari Watanabe said. "The name reinforces our role as a global center for athletes, coaches, fans and partners. This change goes far beyond a rebranding. It is a promise to elevate the sport and expand access to gymnastics worldwide." ■
